Windows XP Pro continuously restarts
am having a recurring problem with a new computer I built in November 2004. The computer specs are as follows:
Athlon 64 3400 processor
MSI K8T neo motherboard
geforce 5500 graphics card
(2) Corsair 512MB pc3200 DIMM's
NEC 16X dvd-r
NEC 16X dvd-rw
Hardrives:
First installation: Seagate 160 GB SATA
Second Installation: Maxtor 80 GB SATA
Windows XP Professional SP2
McAfee Virus scan 8.0
Adaware Se
Spybot
The problem I keep having is after a month or so, the computer will no longer start. It will get to the Safe Mode options screen and no matter which screen I choose, it goes so far and restarts. Just before it restarts, it flashes a BSOD but only for a fraction of a second so it is unreadable. If I choose Last known good configuration it will at least get to the windows xp splash screen and then restart.
At first I and the IT guy at work thought that it may be a bad hard drive, thus the second installation. He loaned me the Maxtor drive and I reinstalled xp and only minimal other applications. It seemed to work fine until this weekend when it happened again. I have tried reading through Microsoft's support information and have tried more than on of their fixes but to no avail.
Can anyone help. I am at my wits end.
