Is there a way to match serial numbers?

We had someone bring in their computer along with an windows xp installation cd. They wanted to know if that cd was used to instal windows on their computer. Is there a way to figure this out? I know in older additions there was a way to match serial numbers or something.
If anyone knows and can help out it would be greatly appreciated.

There is no embedded serial number in any Windows installation CD. The product key was on the booklet that came with it in earlier versions & with XP is supposed to be on an attached sticker on your PC case.

I have the product key, but there is no sticker on the case. Do you know a way to find it in the computer system?

There's a program called Fresh Diagnose from freshdevices.com that was able to retrieve the product key from earlier versions of Windows, but it looks like microsloth plugged that "leak", I just tried it on my new P4 running XP Pro & it doesn't work...

Download Belarc Advisor it's a free programe, it will scan everything on your PC and under Software Licenses it shows the Product keys for all Microsoft software installed.
