Windows Xp start only after 3 or 4 reboot

Hi everyone. I have a desktop computer with windows Xp Professionnal. When my computer has been turned off for the night or when I restart in the morning, windows Xp won't boot. I see the bios and everything goes well. Then just before the windows logo is supposed to appear, it just stays black and I need to reset the computer. Then it ask me to start windows normally or in safe mode etc etc. I choose to start normally or even "last working settings" and it won't start. If I restart the pc 3 or 4 time and choose start windows normally it will finally starts. Everything goes well, Windows start and everything is ok.

It's annoying to do this every morning. I've upgraded my video card to the latest nvidia drivers. I ran powermax for my hard drive and memtest and evrything is fine.

So does anybody have an idea why this is happening...

Thanks

Sounds like you are having issues with a driver loading on bootup. Did this start after you updated drivers for your Graphic card?

Have you tried to roll the computer back to before you updated drivers? What drivers are you using and what card do you have?

The problems were happening even before I updated my video card drivers. I have an Nvidia GeForce2 Mx 400. And I'm currently using the Official Nvidia Drivers version 66.93 released on November 9 2004. SO i'm not sure the video card is the problems because after 3 or 4 reboot the PC is finnaly starting up just fine. It take at least 3 or 4 reboot...

I don't know if this will help, but I've found some of the older versions of the nVIDia drivers work better. I usually try to stay 2 or 3 versions off the current one. You might want to search their archives and give it a try, although it doesn't seem like a video issue

It's memtest! I never had this problem before....but I did yesterday. I ran memtest overnight as recomended. I got up in the morning = no errors great....I properly shut down the system and went to work. Then last night I come home turn the machine on and start getting the exact same syptoms you described. I tried booting with all the opions twenty or thirty times. Nothing ever worked. I had to restore the system and even that did not want to start on the first try. I was very releaved to see the restore start.

I have one gig of ram and had set mem test to 500mb. I will never use that program again.
