i need help tooooo X(
I have a BRAND NEW gateway desktop. I have the same problem as everyone else, only audio codecs in device manager. all fields greyed out in sounds and audio devices. Here are the specs in the Belarc Report.

I downloaded the audio driver it suggested, and I got an error saying that it wasn't compatible with my version of windows (or something. I'm running win XP, SP2 running and everything.)
easy to say that my sound is still down. Could it be a hardware issue?

Look here to find your serial number, I think Brook Tree may have something to do with it, with the sreial Number we can check gateway to find the right driver http://support.gateway.com/s/MISC/Cu...rningsu4.shtml

Your board is a Biostar U8668 Via P4M266
Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Then go here to Biostar to get your driver it is a C-Media http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/dr...name=U8668&os=

According to Fujitsu Siemens it's a Realtek ALC655 audio, their driver is not as up to date as Realtek
Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Then go here to Realtek to get the driver http://w3serv.realtek.com.tw/downloa...&Software=True

Restore to before you installed the driver
Then set another Restore Point before installing this driver from Fujitsu Siemens http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/crosslink.asp
top left select Downloads / Select Category - Audio ( Not onboard ) / Select OS - Win XP - Go . Audio driver is there
