I don't know what happend. When I go into control panel and click sounds and audio devices I can not change any of the settings because the colors are like, dulled so when I try and click on anything nothing happens. It also says no audio device under the volume panel. I don't see what's wrong because I had sound before so I don't know what could have happend. I'm only 15 and I'm not really good with this system talk. Please help, thanks in advanced.

your report shows a Packard Bell ISTART 2369, and you have tried the Realtek HD audio driver, and not working, so you need to check if audio is enabled in the BIOS

look at this first
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...80338#standard

you use the keyboard to navigate- make a note of what to do

as soon as comp boots press the F2 key
the first screen CMOS Setup Utility opens

use the down arrow key to select Features Setup - press Enter key

Audio Device should be set to Auto -
if Disabled - use down arrow key to select -
then use + key to change to Auto

press F10 key to Save & Exit BIOS

y key to accept changes

XP will load

install audio driver again

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow instructions

make a note of where the files are extracted to, then install this way

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow instructions

Thank you again for your help!

check these out first

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

well i have the same problem downloaded the ac'97 drivers from realtek and stuff idk what 2 do ive been without sound for like 3 days and its driving me nutz so plz help and if i dont reply send me an email curtis_taylor88@yahoo.com btw i think my sound card is part of my mother board.

I have the same board and it has Realtek AC'97 audio, check this to see if Realtek is set as default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

you need to check BIOS to see if audio is [Enabled]

as soon as comp boots press the <Del> key the Main menu opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...UXE%20Main.JPG

use right arrow key to select the Advanced menu
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...20Advanced.JPG

use down arrow key to select Onboard Device Configuration - press Enter key
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...v%20Config.JPG

AC97 audio should be [Enabled]

if not use down arrow key to select

use + key to change

press F10 key to save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

install audio again

Don't forget the Restore Point
