Done this. still nothing
Things ive tried:
Downloading/updating the driver for the old soundcard
Deleting entries in the registry key
in boot.ini changing /fastdetect to /bootlog
Buying a new soundcard and installing it
Disabling the onboard soundcard in bios
Changed the windows audio thing to automatic
and probably more, i swear ive exhausted every option

All that happens is the cards install, but when i go to sound panel it says no audio device under every tab, when i check the cards in device manager it says working, look deeper, says driver enabled but not functioning, so i think its something stopping the drivers installing properly.
Im not massively computer savvy but relatively capable.
Ive disabled the onboard realtek one now and am just focusing on trying to get the new one working but no matter how many times i uninstall/reinstall the driver of the disk, still the exact same 'no audio' 'driver enabled but not functioning' hoopla. ive been at this 3 days now i swear im going insane haha

any insight from anyone would be much appreciated!!!!!!

ok, if you have a Restore Point to before you started installing the drivers, then remove the sound card physically from the comp, restore the comp to the earlier time , then go here to Compac and install the chipset driver - then Restart your comp
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...product=442959

install the drivers for the sound card, then physically install the sound card in your comp, XP should show the Found New hardware wizard and install the drivers. had the same problem with a wireless card, needed to install the drivers before fitting the wireless card into the comp, completley Knxxxed the comp and had to do a Clean Install

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

download the driver, save to desktop, then double click the file to install, it should have a setup.exe file or install automatically.

Hi, I'm new to this site but I just fixed my sound by following the instructions I found on this forum. The dreaded "No Audio Device" problem. Run a search and I'm sure you will find help somwhere.

go back to Dell and install the Chipset driver - then RESTART your comp

then install the driver this way, use it If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

don't forget the restore point

I have a HP Pavillion ze5730us notebook. I just formatted the hard drive and put windows Xp back on it. Unfortunately the sound is highly distorted. Music skips around and Windows sounds are crackly.

It says my card is a Conexant AC-Link Audio. The driver version is 6.13.10.282. No question marks or exclamation marks are near the devices in device manager. Not sure what to do.

Also, I've tried installing different drivers but they all end with FAILURE.

Hi Bookworm,

Thanks for your reply. I have first installed chipset driver and restarted my computer and tried to install the sound drivers, however, I got the same error "Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again". I have restarted but no use. Actually, I have read in one forum and one guy said to run DXDIAG in run and asked to see in the "sound" tab it is giving some info like "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer". It says there is no device and drivers as well. I do not know what to do. I have been trying various methods mentioned in diff forums but of no concrete result. Please help me.

sorry this is my fault, I linked to the wrong model, use the System Restore point you created and go back to before you installed the drivers, there are 2 audio drivers shown for your model, an verest report will show which one you have, you can post and I'll look at it

Dell drivers - http://support.euro.dell.com/support...id=-1&impid=-1

Everest - http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

don't forget the Restore Point

HP offer no audio driver for your model, but this is a link to a HP Conexant AC'97 audio, I'm not 100% sure this driver will work
