Hello Bookworm,

Thanks for your reply. I could find out the problem. Actually, I have installed "Everest Home Edition" before itself but I didn't check the report properly. However, after reading your reply I acrefully observed my sound drivers and installed from dell site. Now I am getting sound and watching a movie. Thanks a lot for your help. I am very much happy now. Have a nice weekend

With Regards
Rayudu

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions
I think I've used this one before. I'll try it.

Also, what should I do if this one gives me a FAILURE notice? What's up with that?

Yeah, it gave me a FAILURE notice. The sound still sounds horrible. I'm not sure what to do. Should I uninstall it and erase the other drivers on my computer and try to reinstall it with the one you gave me?

I'm stumped.

I think I know of a solution, but first have posted at the HP Business forum, see here http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/...categoryId=411

I'll try posting there but if you have any other ideas, please, by all means, tell me. I need this notebook to be completed asap.

Hi,

I also have a problem with sound card, I hope it's okay to add it here instead of posting a new thread...
I fomatted my PC last night, installed everything I had but when I put the CD with the sound card (SoundMax), it says there is no driver found in my computer.

What I know to say about my PC is that it's Intel, Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz, Operating system Windows XP SP2.

In my device manager, I get a question mark on all of these:
PCI device
SM Bus controller
Video Controller (VGA competible)

Can't seem to be able to update them, it doesn't find anything niether automatically nor with the CD containing the audio card or the Windows XP CD.

Any help please...?

need the motherboard to find the chipset driver first Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section.

first check this

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

then get Belarc, copy and paste the report but leave out the software license and win update section
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

But leave out this section; it gives your Product Keys for Windows

Software License
Belarc - Advisor cd45f7aa
Microsoft - Internet Explorer XXXXX-XXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Microsoft - Office XP Professional XXX-XX-XXXXXXXX-XX (Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Microsoft - WebFldrs XP XXX-XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Microsoft - Windows XP Professional XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXX-XXX (Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

try a system file check

go to Run - type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes and note the space after sfc) - have the xp disc available in case sfc needs to repair or replace any files

Ok, that's the information I got on the motherboard:

Motherboard:

CPU Type: DualCore Intel Pentium D 820, 2800MHz
Motherboard Chipset: ATI Radeon Xpress 200
System memory: 448 MB
Bios Type: AMI (11/22/06)

Since I couldn't find the way to copy all of the information on the computer summary, I thought it would be enough since the rest didn't seem relevant.. or is it?
Anyway I hope it help to help me..... thanks!
