SiS can sometimes turn off the audio in the BIOS, Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

it will give more info, in the meantime use this from SiS - it will show what SiS chipsets you have installed and link to downloads, it's safe so accept the activex http://www.sis.com/support/support_prodid.htm

check this to see if Realtek is set as default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

it's very late here - let me know and I'll post back later, new motherboard is last resort

Hello Bookworm,

Sorry to trouble you again, I went to the site that you gave and try to download the SiS 650/740 Multimedia Package VGA Driver for XP (The last one at the bottom of the page), but after I have downloaded it and opened it, there is no Setup file or Install file. I tried to download it form all the locations they have given (Taiwan, USA, Europe and China), but it didn't work. I am not sure what to do, like is there something wrong with my computer or can I download it from another site but I am afraid that it may not match my system?. What is your expert advice that I should do?

Thank You

Thank You

install this way and use the If No Setup File method, dont' forget the restore point

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

if you get the same, model not recognised, top right - Search - type sigmatel audio xp - click search - 3rd page Sigmatel version 5.10.5067 - this is the only one I can find that says it installs xp driver on a system shipped with Vista installed
