I reformatted Windows XP SP3 on my Gateway MX-6453. Tried installing the drivers from gateway with success on most of them but the sound driver. After much reading many people have had the same issue and im not finding a fix online anywhere.

When trying to install the drivers from Gateway here is what happens:
-First I select both sound drivers and download them from http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP
- next I extract both as directed and try to run the exe's
-When i run the Volume Icon Software update nothing happens
-When i run the SigmaTel Audio Driver version: 5.10.5082.0
It says click next to install, I do.
Then a window pops up saying "Another intance of this setup is already running. Please wait for the oher instance to finish and then try again."
I click ok
I get an install bar like its about to do something but never moves to the right and then after a few seconds I get a new window that says "setup has finished copying he files to your computer. Before you can use the program, you must restart your computer."
I click ok(restart).
Now system has booted up and sigmatel is again trying to install itself and asking my to click next to install.
i click next
Then i get an immediate error saying "your system does not support the driver you are attempting to install."
I click ok
I'm at my desktop with no sound again...

serial number links to the MX6448, so before doing anything Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section. need to see the chipset to be sure of the hardware

it's very late here, need to sleep, but I suspect it's the ati video driver, can you check Control Panel - Add/Remove / is the Microsoft Netframework 2.0 installed and also the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture, could also be shown as Microsoft UAA

I'll post later, but do you have a System Restore Point you can use to restore to before you installed any drivers, then we can start fresh

I'll post later, but do you have a System Restore Point you can use to restore to before you installed any drivers, then we can start fresh

I want you to install the audio driver this way, useing the If No setup File method, in other words make XP use this driver, make a note of where to driver files are uncompressed in the cab

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand or select the problem driver
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device or problem driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next

M$ UAA must be installed before \hd audio will work, go here and install this driver http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

it's from HP but supplied by M$, then install the Sigmatel audio driver again

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Bookworm, Im not sure how I install that Driver. It's an executable file. I have the Intel® Desktop Board D845EBT. When I double-click, it says it unzips the contents but nothing really happens and I still have no sound.

How do I install this driver?

How do I install this driver?

this way

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand or select the problem driver
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device or problem driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Ya I installed that and tried again but had no luck. Was the exact same error messages as I mentioned in the original post.

Not sure if this is related but under device manager the only thing with an (!)
is Other devices - PCI device (!). Not really sure but is Sigmatel on board or a card?

Also not sure if you put my serial number in at gateway but it shows a different laptop(MX-6448) than my model number(MX-6453). Earlier before I had made my original post on a different XP install I did try some of those drivers also with the same outcome, no sound.
