I'm not sure how to check which sound card I have or where to go to download new drivers. Any ideas?

Need more information, make and model or a Belarc report http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

copy and paste into thread.

Check this first to see if C-Media is shown as your default audio
Check Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Audio Tab / Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio device is selected; something like modem line 0 playback might have been substituted for the proper audio device. Information by Jim Pivonka

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case

This is the link to your Acer Aspire T300
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...pire_t300.html
your audio is listed as C-Media

Hope this helps

Exclamation New Member to ST&T with "NO SOUND" problem...

Hello,
I am brand new to this site. I discovered it via a Google Search I made for "No Sound, Windows". I read through several of the posts in this thread so I already know that I will need to cut and paste the info. from a BELARC ADVISOR scan so that is what I will include at the end of this post.

BTW, I already checked my DEVICE MGR. and found that under "Other Devices" there were yellow question marks next to "Multimedia Audio Controler" as well as two others entitled "unkown devices". I tried to see if I could fix the problem from there but I was not able to.

BTW, my brother used to own this laptop and he had a repair done a while back where the motherboard was replaced. I have a feeling that that is where this problem is steming from. I had a fresh copy of WINDOWS XP Professional installed today and now I have no sound.

I will now attempt to cut and past the info from BELARC below....If there is any other info needed please let me know. Thank you in advance...

Hello BARBARA,
Whew! That was a quick reply. Thanks.
Ok, I downloaded EVEREST thing you mentioned in the previous post. I am going to try to cut and paste the info you requested below. I will do my best to get all the info in one post. If not, I will provide the remainder in a subsequent post.

------------------------
Barbara,
I just want to add that I am checking out the EVEREST site and the info I need for find for you seems to be spread out over various places on the site. I am going to attempt to provide it for you, I just hope it all makes sense. BTW, I located some information on my AUDIO ADAPTER in the EVEREST site. It doesn't want t o cut and paste because it is also a link. I will type the info here...

VIA AC'97 ENHANCED AUDIO CONTROLLER

A link to "Product Info." was also provided. Here it is:

http://www.via.com.tw/en/product/audio/

Also, a link to the driver was provided but when I clicked and the page opened there was no information provided on the page. Only the sites main info shows along the left and right sided of the page while the center remains blank. Hmmmm...

http://www/viaarena.com/?PageID=69

Also, under MOTHERBOARD the following is listed (again I have to type it manually as some of them are also links and won't allow me to cut and paste)...
MOTHERBOARD
***CPU TYPE: MOBILE INTEL PENTIUM 4M, 1400MH2 (14x100)
MOTHERBOARD NAME: Hewlett Packard HP Pavillion Notebook PC
MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET: VIA VT8751(A) ProSavageDDR P 4M 266(A)
SYSTEM MEMORY: 752MB (DDR SDRAM)
***BIOS TYPE: Insyde (03/20/02)
COMMUNICATION PORT: ECP Printer Port (LPT1)
(***CPU and BIOS are actually links with product info available)

O.K., I think that should cover what you asked for. If not, I will be happy to look up more for you. Again, thank you so much for your time.

Sincerely,
Charles Roland
(sternedwards@comcast.net)

P.S: Is it possible to receive a reminder from this site if I get a reply to my post?

Hello,
woops,
I noticed that the links I provided in the previous post do not work correctly. I typed them in just the way they were in my address bar so I don't know why that should happen. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Do I need to download a driver for the
VIA AC'97 ENHANCED AUDIO CONTROLLER ? If so, how do I do that?

Sincerely,
Charles Roland
