did you keep the HD from when the previous motherboard was installed ?

ok, can you restore to before you installed the drivers, then go here to Octek
http://support.octek.com.au/Update/Intel/Drv_i84x.htm

1st install the Intel Chipset driver - then RESTART your comp, this is a different onr than the Intel download

then install the ALC650 driver, it's an older driver than the one from Realtek

Set a System Restore Point before installing EACH driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Realtek audio driver here at Acer - it's a zip file
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...ire_t120e.html

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

or go to Realtek and get the driver from them
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Click I Accept – wait for site to reload – click Next

Download the (Executable) file – save to desktop – double click downloaded file and follow installation instructions.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Can you please help.

check windows audio service

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

look at this, is this your BIOS,

Thank you for the reply.

I had a bad virus a bit back and had someone reformat my computer. Now that I have it back, the sound doesn't work. It is activated in BIOS, but "Sound Playback/Defualt device" is now greyed out, and when I look under component services Windows Audio is already started and set to automatic. Everything else runs normally, but Windows doesn't seem to recognize sound in any way (no taskbars for it, etc).

Any thoughts?
