NO Sound problem

I don't know what happend. When I go into control panel and click sounds and audio devices I can not change any of the settings because the colors are like, dulled so when I try and click on anything nothing happens. It also says no audio device under the volume panel. I don't see what's wrong because I had sound before so I don't know what could have happend. I'm only 15 and I'm not really good with this system talk. Please help, thanks in advanced.

I have COMPLETELY the same problem but its my sound AND my wireless LAN thingie.... and the problem is with my Laptop....

Hi, I`ve often looked at this website and seen how it helps others with their problems, well I`m no different.
My brother gave me his laptop as he wanted vista removed and xp put on, which was easy enough.
Why he wasnt supplied any discs with his laptop which he bought new is a bit dissapointing.
However there are several ? marks where the drivers are missing.
The first one I`d like to find is the sound

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Hello I installed XP on a clean hard drive. But I dont get any sound. I have tried a bunch of different fixes for this but no luck. my sound options are all grayed out. I got a new sound card and that doesnt work either. My info...

Never mind I got it to work!!!


I went to Gateway and downloaded and ran my sound driver again, now I have sound!!

For anyone else. Go to your computer systems homepage and find the sound driver and download and and try installing it
