The T2542 does not have a Gigabyte motherboard as your report shows, the Gigabyte audio is realtek high definition go here to Gigabyte and install the realtek audio with the Microsoft UAA included
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...t=xp#anchor_os

Set a System Restore Point before installing any drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

The Sis 7012 integrated audio chip is not detected as long as there is no driver installed.

1. First instal a driver, which is most likely to be Realtek AC97
There might be a problem when trying to install a driver frim Sis website.
You might encounter an error message (it gives only a number code, no explanations) but it is worth trying this driver.
2. Once the audiodriver is installed, reboot the PC
3. Eventually the Sis 7012 chip will automatically be detected as "new hardware" but wil be named otherwise (something like Multimedia Controller). This device is actually the "sound device"
4. Go to the Device Manager.
5. Open "Sound , Video and Game Controllers" and search for "Realtek AC'97 Audio". Right click on it and go to "Properties"
6. Under tab Details (device instance ID) you wil see the vendors item with "7012" somewhere in the long ID.

Exclamation And ... what's the name of your dog ?

I'm not a moderator, but please ... if you submit a sound issue, nobody needs to know your hardware configuration in full details not related whatsoever with sound !! Giving less unnecessary details will increase chances that other users will read your question and will react.

(bla.. bla..bla...)
This explains the usual way I do it.
But I didn't check it for SiS-7018.

- Google search with words as download drivers SiS-7018. This will show you many download sites for this audio chip.

- Try downloading the installation file for the drivers of your 7018 from
http://www.liutilities.com/device-dr...-audio-driver/
or from any other website, to a convenient location on your disk.
Don't use it at this moment.

- Remove all failing devices (yellow marked) and reboot.

- Windows will detect "new hardware" (maybe named as "Media Controller", maybe otherwise) but don't follow the wizard.

- To provide drivers to your audio device you have to click on the file that you downloaded and Run it. Follow the instructions to install.

- Reboot and check results.

I hope this works for you and if so, please tell us.

I've been reading through. I have exactly the same problem. Not getting any help from Dell. I have Multimedia Audio Controller on a Dell Optiplex GX270 running on XP Home. Where the heck do I find the drivers to download? All I run into are softwares to download that "will find my drivers". I just want the drivers to download.

Someone Please help.
