Hi there. This thread seems very active so i thought i'd post my problem here. Basically my problem started when the sound jack on my laptop (Dell 9300) snapped off. Unfortunately this requires a full motherboard replacement to fix, or i need to solder it back on. I don't want to do either of those things. Instead I replaced it with a Sound Blaster Audigy zs PCMCIA card. Originally it worked fine. Then all of a sudden I am getting the dreaded "No Audio Device" problem whereby NO audio devices are detected by the system even though they appear to be fine inside device manager and in the sound and audio properties from control panel. I tried to fix this by removing all traces of the Audigy card (including the audigy drivers which i removed as per Creatives instructions and then also used driver cleaner to make 100% sure of it). Now it wont recognise either my onboard sound OR the audigy if I try to set it up again. There are lots of posts about this problem on the net but none seem to come to anything. I would rather not do an XP reinstall. My onboard sound is from Sigmatel and i have the latest dell drivers for it - same with the Audigy.

Here's a quick summary of my system:
Dell 9300
Board: Dell Inc. 0C5668
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Dell Inc. A05 09/19/2005
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Audio: SigmaTel C-Major Audio
This is without the audigy card - i want to get it working as it was before trying to reinstall the new hardware.

Basically i need to know if anyone has resolved this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you post the make and model of your comp, or a belarc report, lets look at the chipset and audio drivers that they offer, http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

install the Chipset driver then RESTART your comp

the ADI 198x is the Soundmax driver install it, it is the onboard sound

Set a System Restore Point before installing each driver just in case

look at this
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Do you mean an Inspiron 9300 if so go here http://support.euro.dell.com/support...os=WW1&osl=EN#

install the Chipset driver then RESTART your comp,( Intel advise installing this driver before anything else including the OS) then install the audio driver

I had the same issue; no sound; but drivers were there; everything looked fine. This stumped me for about a week. Okay; so this is how I fixed it. Go to "Start"-\"control Panal"-\"Administrative Tools"-\"Component Services". This will pull up a seperate window, on the left click "services (local)" from the tree. Go down to the "windows audio" service. If the service is on "disabled" or "manual"; right click and select "properties" under "startup type" change to "automatic"- click apply. click "start". Reboot!!

I have the same problem with most of the people here,
and that is, I lost the sound after re-format my PC.

However, before I found this forum, I have tried to install Realtek and Viyln Deck Audio drivers.

When installing Realtek,when its installing midway, I was told that it hasn't been tested yet and given 2 buttons to press:
1) Continue anyway
2) STOP Installation

I clicked "continue anyway", and about 30 secs after that, my comp restart on its own, and after I checked the control panel, nothing is installed.
Then it says hardware wasn't installed properly and unable to function.

So I thought Realtek isn't compatible with my sound card, so I tried Vinyl Deck audio driver. And I also pressed the "continue anyway", but its got installed smoothly, I can play my songs again, and the volume icon appear as normal at the bottom of right hand corner, but NO SOUND at all...

Now, I have uninstalled all of them.
Oh, I didn't do what you suggested, system restoring thing...

Everything is connected properly but there is nothing sound wise. I have updated my SiS drivers but I get nothing. And yes...I did recently do a factory restore :roll:

I have no sound from my speakers and no system sounds....nothing....nada

Check a few things first
Is AC'97 audio enabled in the BIOS

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic.

It's showing an SiS 7012 audio driver, did you install the C-Media driver
