OK, get this program, and lets see what audio is installed if any, its gives a really long list of drivers as everything is shown, it's the unknown device identifier http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...entifier.shtml
trawl through and it should give an idea of what audio is installed, and if we have the right one.
Hope this helps

I see a lot of microsoft 'fake' drivers but no Realtek or VIA drivers. I'm about to officially declare the motherboard as defective.

Was this a new motherboard or taken from another PC, if so what model was it taken from. Are the radio jacks on the I/O plate

This was a new motherboard bought from Newegg.com. It is the MSI-P8M3V. Not sure what you mean by radio jacks on the I/O plate.

You have a driver that works on one Win XP system, find out what the driver is
Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / hardware tab / highlight the audio device / Properties / Properties tab - expand Audio devic - MIDI device - Mixer device are they all the same / Driver tab - note the driver and version. From that we should be able to find the right driver.
Cheers

go here to Sony http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...eType=Original
the first driver to install is under Motherboard /Chipset driver - this tells the operating system what INF files it needs to install, install the driver then RESTART your comp, it should correct these driver faults. The driver offered is for onboard, PCI device leads to the fact a sound card could be installed, where are the radio jacks you use, at the top or bottom of the tower,
Hope this helps

The info Asus K8st leads to a Asus T2-AE1 barebones sustem, this has Realtek AC'97 audio. Go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click to install
The site is slow
Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Hope this helps
