what do you mean radio jacks? the plugs for the speakers? they're on the middle of the comp
and i just installed te motherboard chipset driver again, but the only thing that seem to have changed was PCI Device is the only in yellow now
after struggling for a week i still can't think of why there is no sound!
o and i forgot to mention that every time i install the RealTime Encoder Board Driver it keeps saying "Failed to Install Driver"

had a look again at Sony, drivers need to be installed in a secificate order look at this
C. Installing Sony Drivers and Windows Updates

Before installing VAIO® applications, you must install or update certain drivers on your computer because Windows XP does not include many of Sony VAIO® drivers. Follow the steps below to install or update the necessary drivers.

1. Browse to the folder where you stored the driver updates that you downloaded from the Sony Support Web site (refer to the "Before Installing" section, above). If you burned the drivers to a CD, insert the CD, and browse to the drivers on the CD.
2. Install the driver packages.

CAUTION: You must install the driver packages in the following order for your computer to operate normally:

The installation of the Sony Drivers is complete.

Create a folder where you can easily find it ( name it drivers ),then download the
Sony Shared Library/Audio/Modem( this is the only PCI device listed) drivers and save in the folder you created. Then copy these files to a CD, go to Device Manager and right click the PCI device - select Update - and when the Hardware Wizard Update opens / choose No not this time to Win Update / Next / Insert the Cd - select Install the software automatically (recommended) / Next. The wizard should find the driver from the Cd and install.

Thank You. I updated the driver as u suggested.
However im still having no sound.
I get the suggestion to add drivers for the hardware...which is really
the MEDIA that has the yellow exclmation mark. I do as suggested,
in installs the MS WINMM Audio Compatibility Driver and the it seems
like it did all the install fine. But still no sound.
Now i checked the hardware again and i have teo media lines with the yellow exclamation!
What can i do here, with multiplying media and no sound! :-)

Thanks a lot.
I have been going around in the same circles for a couple of days, between the sigmatel driver, the media drivers and the windows audio update. I dont which order worked correct, or what fixed the issue, i even kept failing
the windows logo testing for the drivers.

but it seems after
got the windows update from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920872 for the update KN920872
and then i got the sigmatel audio driver from the link you mentioned,
the default sound and playback worked.
Lastly i unistalled / installed completely the media hardware
whcih seemed to get all media players to work. Phew!
