Nothing on Dell for your model, but the board is an Intel VC820, Intel no longer give support for this board, but go here to Intel and get the original Sound driver http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...submit=Go%2 1
It's No:6 on the list, it's a Creative driver.

Create a System Restore Point before installing the driver just in case.

I downloaded it, and then when I opened the file, it opened up a program in msdos, and asked me if I wanted to extract it. I hit yes, and all these icons popped up on the desktop. I hit setup and installed the driver, but still no sound... did I do something wrong?

See if you can see an asset tag listed on a plate anywhere.I need to check the model, and you may need to update the chipset, need to make sure the drivers are correct,

Can you look here on how to get your serial No: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp click on How do I find my serial number / Desktop/Tower so I can check the Gateway site, Iv'e checked the Intel board, just want to make sure that it is correct.

Hello I was reading that u were able to fix this guys computer that had a problem with the sound the same thing has happened to mine under Device Manager were it says other devices there is a yellow question mark. I tried reintalling updates for the drive and everything that I could possible do but I just can't do it. Here I'm sending u all my computer information if u can please help me.

Your HP is a Pavilion 512n, but no sound driver shown. Your motherboard is a TriGem Lomita. Go here to Driversguide.com http://members.driverguide.com/index.php
you will have to register.
After login, follow this path to your driver Choose Sound Card / letter T / scroll to TriGem / Select Company / No: 5 Lomita / that is your sound driver+Lan driver in a zip file

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Set a System Restore Point before installing each driver just in case

First install No: 8 - Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility then RESTART your comp
