Help!

Hi. I've read some of the stuff on this thread, but not all, so slap me all over the wrists if you must but I'm desperate. I've posted on several of the forums I know, but not too much help so far and things are all over the place cos I've had my puter to bits and I haven't put it back yet - just in case - , everythings in the wrong position, including me and my back's starting to really ache! It's not going to get better til I get the problem sorted and put all the bits back...

Basically I've registered on here because I was searching for an answer and came accross this page. Someone has suggested my problem is in the BIOS buit I've lost my manual and I'm a bit reluctant to fiddle about in there too much without instructions.

Right, this is the problem:

NO SOUND. Okay, so I'm on the right thread, I think!

I also have recently reformatted and done a "factory reset" on my PC. It's not the first time I've done this, but it's the first time I've had no soud as a result.

The PC is an AOL with Medion software (at least it says AOL on the PC and Medion on the CDs ) and a product recovery CD and also a bundle of spplication and support software. It's got a built in sound device which seems to be bolted on to the motherboard. I put that bit in bold because it may be important. I've just reinstalled the driver off the application and support CD, but still nothing. I'm running Windows XP Home edition and the puter has 256M RAM, 1.73 kHz procesor and various other things. I cannot remember how to look up that info in the PC even though I did it recently but I remember it.

Can anyone help me please?

Ta, pammi

Check this out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device

With a Medion PC you need the serial number, it should be on a label on the tower ( S/N) once you have that, just go here Drivers and Updates it will list all your drivers, install the audio driver.

hope this helps

Check this
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your response Barbara This did not work. It was on automatic already. Also, it said started and did not give an option to stop or start again (greyed out).

When I look at the hardware tab in audio devices there are 4 unkown devices in addition to AC97 and Legacy drivers. Does this have something to do with it? Thanks again.
