I have just acquired a second-hand computer, (someone got rid of it, and all it needed was a new hard drive ) and cant seem to get the sound working. Cannot access volume control because it says that no appropriate devices were detected. I am using speakers that i know work cos i used them on my old comp. In toher devices in device manager it shows a multimedia audio controller with the yellow exclamation mark. As far as i can tell, what i need is a driver for my sound - only problem is because its second hand, i dont know much about its components and so dont have a clue what driver i need. Heres my Belarc results:

Check this out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device. Does it show Soundblaste or nforce as audio

Get Everest copy and paste the My Computer/Summary section, see if it gives the board http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

Hope this helps

Thank you for your fast response, I had a look and I ended up disabling the wrong one, I disabled the SB Live! one instead of the nVIDIA...but that is sorted now and I have sweet music

Thank you again

I have downloaded the driver and installed it properly but theres still no Audio Devices found I'm not sure what to do now.

Edit: I found the disc! The Gigabyte disc, I've installed the audio driver from there but still to no avail Would I need to get a new sound card or look for a specialist?

no sound

I was wondering if someone could help me with a small sound issue i have. Since upgrading from xp service pack1 to service pack2 I have no sound at all, the drivers are up to date, the audio is enabled in the bios, i have gone into start> settings control panel> sound + audio devices, I then clicked on audio devices tab and under sound playback it says no playback devies. As an example i tried playing an audio track and cd on windows media player 11 and brings up an error as follows "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with you sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not function properly." I tried to downoad a new driver from HP and when it got to the end of the installation it came up with an error Driver not found! Reboot your system and run this setup again! My system details are as follows:

Your serial number lists your model as an iMedia 5206, now the MSI board has onboard sound, but no audi driver at Packard Bell. It seems that audio is through your modem, can you post the lower section of Belarc so i can check.

This is the modem driver it's an AMR ( Audio modem riser )
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...n=010742120502

Are your audio plugs near the bottom of your tower.

Cheers
