Because, before installing service pack 2, the sound worked. So, I wonder if I remove it, it would be back or now.

thanks thanks thanks!

Look at this from HP, Step 7: shows how to configure onboard sound in the BIOS

Not too sure what driver you want, this is NO Sound yet you say no VIid card, is it no sound or a display driver you need.
This is your Intel board, but these drivers are onboard no a separate card

if it is audio then you need the High definition driver

This is the onboard video driver http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...na l&lang=eng

help! no sound

Hi, I'd appreciate it so much if someone can help...I have NO SOUND!! I went onto the manufacturer's site (http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/drivers_sound.html) and re-installed my driver already [Avance Logic AC'97 Sound System Software (WDM driver)] and under device manager there's no more exclamation mark beside the sound driver but there's still a yellow exclamation mark beside PCI device and other. And there's still no sound. Help plz! Here's my system info:

THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP!!!

Yeh, realize this is a no sound thread lol...but i guess i havn't got the right divers so same problem more or less. So i guess i need both sound and display.

So you say for audio i need the High Definition driver, hmm i already installed the first download option on the Intell site above you gave me for audio drivers. The first download option i believe is NOT high definition, so is there a chance i can uninstall the audio driver and install the new one? I assume the HIGH DEFINITION driver is this one --> "English: 5.10.5208_W3_XP32_XP64_2K_wSTACGUI_UPMIX_HDFP_V2.E XE" (this one being the second download option of the intell site)

Also, thank you so much for the help thus far bookworm. You certainly are the best!

Check this out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

But if Device manager blank, go back to HP / Original Drivers / Chipset driver / install and RESTART your comp
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...4 171&lang=en

Then install audio driver again

I also am having problems with my sound. I can hear little noises, like an AIM message... but neither iTunes or Windows Media Player will work. iTunes says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly" and Windows Media Player says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly". In the Device Manager there are no yellow marks shown and I did run a Belarc Advisor Profile. Please tell me what I can do to fix this! Thank you!

Heres the installation instructions from HP the file is sp.23991.exe

Installation Instructions

1. Download the driver package.

2. Double-click on the icon for the driver package downloaded in step 1, and then click NEXT.

3. Accept the terms in the HP license agreement, and then click NEXT.

4. Click OK to continue. The original drivers are now stored in the C:\HP\Drivers\Audio folder.

5. If Device Manager does not start automatically, use the following steps. Otherwise go to step 6:

a. Click Start.

b. Right-click My Computer, and then select Properties.

c. Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.

6. Click the + (plus) sign next to "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices".

7. Right-click the device you want to update, and then select Update Driver. this should be Realtek AC'97 or multimedia audio

8. Click NEXT to install the software automatically.

9. Click FINISHED to complete the installation.

Hope this helps

So you say for audio i need the High Definition driver, hmm i already installed the first download option on the Intell site above you gave me for audio drivers. The first download option i believe is NOT high definition, so is there a chance i can uninstall the audio driver and install the new one? I assume the HIGH DEFINITION driver is this one --> "English: 5.10.5208_W3_XP32_XP64_2K_wSTACGUI_UPMIX_HDFP_V2.E XE" (this one being the second download option of the intell site)

Also, thank you so much for the help thus far bookworm. You certainly are the best!

Yes thats the High Definition audio driver

Cheers
