Here's my problem, but I'm afraid that this may be more than a sound issue.

All of a sudden I had no sound, so I tried to remedy the issue by restarting. The odd thing is, right after I restart, my sound works and i can take a screenshot of this:

http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?image=beforeig4.jpg

Which seems to be perfectly fine. But after about a minute, if not less, I lose sound, and this is how that exact same window looks like:

http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?image=afterew5.jpg

My interface seems to be switching back and forth at odd intervals. And losing sound after a minute after restarting seems like something is loading in the background and shutting it off? Whatever it is, it's not reassuring.

Think you can help? thanks!

Have you tried updateing the Realtek driver, go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click to install

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Problem still there. Restarted my computer as prompted, worked for a bit, and the control panel window changed again.

If you have a Win disc try a System File Check (sfc)

go to Run / type "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note space after sfc) / OK have yur Win disc available in case sfc needs to repair or replace any files. the programe runs and then closes

That website has had three total posts today, 4 yesterday, 3 the day before. 3 of those 10 posts were made on "Make me laugh!" threads.

Sigh, thanks anyway. I'll try looking for a place as active as this one.

Check these out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.
