Go here to Via and get the driver from them http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...SubCatID =104

installation instructions are shown as follows

To install the driver, save any unsaved work and close all applications then click on the driver download link (above). Choose the "Save File" option and save it to your folder under Windows where you file your drivers. Unzip the file. (To unzip the file right click and highlight "Extract All") Then double click on the Setup.exe file to run the installation program. Follow the prompts and restart at the end of the installation.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Look at this from HP, check Step 4

go to Step 7 this shows how to enable sound in the BIOS ( print it off )

if sound has been Disabled, and you then Enable, the found New hardware Wizard will launch, just point it to the driver you have downloaded.

One point F5 resets the BIOS in case of problems.

Error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

I've had this problem twice already and I was able to resolve it before just by uninstalling/reinstalling the sound driver but that doesn't work anymore. I even tried to do a system restore but all of my restore points are not working. I don't know what to do anymore. I didn't install anything recently and I'm wondering why this happened to me again. I'm using Windows Media Player 11 and has a built in sound card. I have an ASUS Motherboard P5PE-VM. I hope someone can help me on this. Thanks.
