"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Your audio must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQzgQ39ovZY

He's pointing to the I/O plate

That motherboard has Realtek onboard sound go here
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Where it says to Reinstall KB927891 I have done since I printed the Computer profile

Check these out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

I even went into device manager and tried that plug and play fix. before i did it I took a snapshot of device manager and in the system devices tree, there is a yellow exclaimation mark next to plug and play enumerator ( since doing the plug and play fix - plug and play enumerator now appear twice in this tree, both with yellow exclamation marks) and in the universal serial bus controllers tree, i see A yellow exclamation mark next to Standard OpenHCD USB host controller, dont know if this helps any but i am trying to find something that might give you a clue as to what is wrong

Ok, that looks as though as its the right driver, and it unzips fine and starts to run fine in the installation.

only problem is at the end of it i get this:

Could it be that i need to uninstall another driver from here first:

if so which one?

Since my last post i found annother web site with instructions on how to uninstalll and then re-install the Plug and play if it has a problem like mine, there was a lot of cutting a and pasting of swenum.inf but it still didn't work. In other posts i have also read about turning the sound on in BIOS could someone tell me how to do this as this is about the only thing i havent tried yet, that and the chipset thing

Try a manual install, just right click the problem device and point to the unzipped files
1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.
