First of all, there is no yellow flag on anything in there see:

I tried it anyway and niether of the files worked as it sayed there were no better updates or something along those lines..

Do you think i need to uninstall something from the above list first?

or would a cheap £15 sound card be a solution as i wouldnt really mind paying that if it would work, or does the soundcard need this onboard chip to be working in order for the soundcard to work?

In other posts i have also read about turning the sound on in BIOS could someone tell me how to do this as this is about the only thing i havent tried yet, that and the chipset thing

Go here to Intel No:4 chipset driver
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21
check Device Manager as this driver resolves a lot of problems.

Step 7 explains how to check audio in the BIOS

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

sure i dont need to uninstall as it wil not work

Thanks for all the suggestions but i have tried everything under the sun and just cannot get it working.

As a solution would a soundcard work, OR would the soundcard need these drivers to make it run...

if not would something like this do:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/48180

or a bit more upmarket:

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/336331...d/Product.html

bearing in mind that it is only my mums work PC that is an 4 year old athlon rig, that my bro uses for light gaming. with 2.1 speakers

I suspect that AC'97 audio is not enabled in the BIOS, it is common to SiS boards, are you familiar with the BIOS or not, let me know

Ok yep you were right. were getting somewhere now i think.

SIS realtek audio '97 was disabled and i enabled it and then rebooted.

It came up with the usual bubble saying realtek audio '97 found and then i think installed it/started installing it.

But then the PC just randomly rebooted/shutdown i cant remember which but i think restart. I thought it must be installed only that it kept repeating this for 5 times. after that i just disabled it again so i could actually use the computer to type this for help.

any ideas?

Going to look at the manual, it's supposed to have a Soundmax driver, look at this are your audio plugs on the I/O plate ( he's pointing to it )

Can you use this from SiS to see what drivers you have from SiS and to get updates, need the chipset driver, accept the ActiveX, it's safe
