Barbara,

God Bless you for helping people like me. I found you by the very first post in this thread. I too have no sound because there is no device (all of a sudden...it worked before). I used Belarc and here is my info:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Gateway E-2100 2800366 400812
System Serial Number: 1098375975
Chassis Serial Number: 1098375975
Enclosure Type: Desktop

Hopefully this is all you need. Thank you so very much in advance. Faye

Restore the comp and then Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section http://www.softpedia.com/progDownloa...oad-16369.html

see if it pins down the board

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Just a little update- did 2 system restores and sound is back but no bing bong thing from MSN Messenger when a message is received. I'm sure we’ll not die without it.

Sound is back. That is good.

At the end of the install, I received two errors. It said "error loading streamci and streamci.dll." I found a site to download a copy of the streamci.dll file and reinstalled the downloads you gave me.

Now, the only exclamation point showing in the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section is under "Unknown device". When I click properties it shows media, and when I try to update the driver it comes up with MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device. But at the end of the update it shows data invalid. Thanks for all your help.

Do you have sound?
