Check these out again

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

if Creative audio is the default audio can you install this way
1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Also if you have a Win disc try a System File Check this is how

Start / Run / type "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note space after sfc) have your Win disc available in case sfc needs to repair or replace any files. The programe runs and then closes on completion, there are no alerts of any sort.

Under Sound & Audio, when I click on Volume, Audio, or Voice tabs, everything is greyed out, and it is defaulted at "No Devices"

Oh, I've already done that. Guess I should have told you. It's Abit SE6. Is that what you needed. I was thinking about going to Walmart and buying a cheap soundcard to see it that works.

Now I need to clarify, the report shows a sound card installed( audio plugs near bottom of tower) and onboard ( audio plugs on the I/O plate near keyboard and mouse sockets) therefore 2 sets of audio plugs.

To use the sound card audio, onboard audio must be disabled in the BIOS,

Try the audio plugs on the I/O plate, are they working,if not then disable onboard sound in the BIOS and then go here http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/downl...AR CHTEXT=SE6

install the Intel chipset driver( restart after installation), then the Creative sound card driver

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
