I've tried installing that driver like 5 times now and it gives me this message ""Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this"

I tried that step 4.5 thing before too and tried again but nothing happened...

How do I bring up that screen when I restart? It says F1 but I think that's for compaq presario desktops. I have an HP DV5000

Thanks for your help, anyyyything to just give me a chance to fix this will be great

Watch the comp as it boots up, usually bottom left it, it will say hit ( the key) to enter Setup. On my model it is the DEL key. but you have to catch it at the right time.

try installing this way use the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish

Need to know the chipset can Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

have you tried this way, this bypasses the setup file and forces windows to install the driver, you will need to know the path to the downloaded driver

6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish

It appears you need this driver from M$ ( Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture ) installed before installing the Conexant audio
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...reg_R1002_USEN

Save to desktop > install > then you must RESTART your comp

then install Conexant audio driver

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
restore point and follow instructions

Check this to see if Realtek is set as default audio
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
