A question, is there a way I can do this while being locked out of the OS? I currently have to go through the Firefox file list to open anything by getting the page from Windows utility manager. Where on the drive would the audio config be located? What folder?

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Hiya, I just bought a new PC and it came with onboard Realtek ALC655 (Realtek ALC655 controller, 5.1 channel audio (AC’97); S/PDIF-out interface (Reserve) is what it said in the ad) and I cannot get it to work at all! It's not recognised in device manager, I only have a "PCI device" with the yellow exclamation mark. I've looked in bios to try enabling it, but I can't find it under anything, even the obvious "onboard devices" section.

Here's my belarc advisor thingy, I've removed the parts I don't think you'll need

Did the comp have Vista Installed

Just checked the manual, it's Realtek ALC660 which is High Definition audio
in the BIOS it's on the Advanced - Southbridge Configuration - High Definition Audio

go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install
.
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install
.
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Thank you so much! It wasn't enabled in bios, but I'm a bit unsure of bios so I didn't want to touch things I thought I would break. I was downloading all the wrong drivers too. I will let the company know they should advertise properly...
Thank you again, you've saved me so much trouble
