NO Sound problem

Hi i am akila... i have a laptop and i can't play any songs in that cause it shows the following error...
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."
What am i supposed to do???

help me!!! i still don't know where can i download a sound drive for my pc... i dn't have any sound coming out from speakers.. please help..

You need to check the BIOS, I think it's set to Auto and should show [Enabled] for the onboard audio

Everything is done on the keyboard, these are the keystrokes
click the images to bring into focus

Need more info Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

I have the same basic problem--NO SOUND. No eror messages. All diagnostics say everything is working and OK. This suddenly happened without installation of soft/hardware or any fiddling around. I have Win-XP pro, Realtek AC'97 Audio, driver is alcxwdm.sys. I have followed this thread and have done all the suggestions given. Any clues?
