Cheers,

check this first to see if Soundmax is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Go here to Asus, audio is Soundmax P4S533MX http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

there's no yellow question marked devices in the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section of device manager, however there is a PCI device and a SM Bus controller in 'Other devices' that are unknown or whatever. (please note im fairly sure my sound card is built in and not a PCI device.)

any help is much appreciated.

Hi everyone!
I'm not exactly "computer saavy" but umm, i've recently installed Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE into my compaq presario SR1817CL [OS - windows xp] , but i still hear no sound coming from my speakers. I think i've done all i can, and i'm getting a little frustrated! . The computer does have an integrated sound card, but when i spoke or "chatted" with one of the techs from compaq, they said my best bet was to install an additional sound card. can someone PLEEASE HELP! i'm going nuts here with out any audio! here is what i got from Belarc, if that helps!

If your audio plugs are in an expansion slot, you have a sound card, need to know which sound card, Belarc says an ESS Allegro and Win XP should have the driver, have you tried updating the driver in device manager

Go here:

and download Belarc Advisor.

Install and run the program and tell us what it lists under 1. Main Circuit Board/Board: and 2. Multimedia

Hi there,

I just read this and I wonder if you can help me.
I downloaded this belarc advisor and this is what it says under Main circuit Board / Board: Board:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. F5V 1.0
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. F5VAS.208 04/02/2007
but under Multimedia it says: none detected.
My problem is I can watch things in Windows media player but not listen to anything. It tells me:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."
This is hapenning since we have changed this laptop from Vista to XP.
Can you help me?
Marleen

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
