Hopefully you can help me like you have helped other people here. I got this computer a few months ago and the sound was working fine, and it had windows ME. I was having some problem's with ME so I decided to try XP using a 30 day trial thing. But my computer kept freezing or going really slow since it couldn't handle xp. Sound was still working fine. I then decided to go back to window's me but in doing so I lost my sound. The problem's I had are gone just I have no sound.

When I right click my computer and go to properties then click the device manger I have 3 yellow question marks under other devices. They are PCI Communication Device, PCI Input Controller, and PCI Multimedia Audio Device.

Here is what Belarc gives me

Thanks for any help you can give me

From what I have checked it appears you have a HP Pavilion 8590c that has a Rockwell Rip Tide Combo card, where sound and modem are combined

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case

Then go here to HP to get the driver http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...reitem=pv488en

Hope this helps

Here is what windows media player says

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

Then when I click more information I get this

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000
