have you checked the properties of the driver in Device Manager, on the General tab, is Use this device ( enable ) selected

Mmhmm, as well as making sure all the devices for it under properties were enabled.

Yeah, model number for my SB Live is SB0060, not sure where to look for my onboard though.

Mmm, I did just realize something though, when I've been downloading the drivers from Creative, they've all just been updates, not the whole driver, so I just found a place to dl the whole driver and I'm waiting on it to finish, hopefully this does the trick.

One more thing, when I go to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Hardware> click my soundcard and go Properties>Properties> my sound device>Properties it says "Driver is enabled but has not been started."

manually install the driver this way

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

under my volume tab it is all gray and says no audio device
under audio tab sound playback is gray and advanced under sound recording is gray
under voice playback is gray and advanced under recording is gray under hardware realtek says t his in location PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5
then i have audio codecs which says unknown location
i have legacy audio which says same
i have media control devices which says same

First check this

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot.

now what still nothing i still had the file for realtek fom yesterday as i just tried to update it then

Try installing this way
