That helped move me along... didn't know to try to update the unknown PCI device.
But, now I get another error.

I'm not sure what's not functioning. Thanks for the help.

Can you remove any devices you have plugged into your notebook and try the installation again.

There's nothing attached to the computer... at least not externally that I know of. And there are no errors in the drives other than the Sigmatel...
I guess it's possibly internal. The computer doesn't pick up any more hardware.

install this from M$ first this is from HP site but is supplied from MS
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=228&lang=e n

it's the M$ UAA needed for high definition audio
then install the Sigmatel driver again

don't forget the Restore Point

I just have one word to say now... it's "Wow!"
You're amazing! Sounds on now. You know alot!
My friend will probably be happy, now that his internet and sound is back up and running. (Fixing friend's computer that crashed.)
I know to come here for any more sound problems.
Never thought about re-reinstalling it. I just kept trying to run off the driver update.

More problems... Happened when the computer rebooted.
All the kernel things are messing up with the "duplicate" error.
And, could it be by having two pnp software enumerators? I don't know how to remove the extra...

All sound just desappered

Hi! I read you advice, you really know a lot. Could you hell me please.

My story. Dell Inspiron Laptop, Winows XP, Sigmatel 9750. In the last evening I had all sounds. In the next morning nothing at all. No upgrades, no system reinstal, I did not do anything, sounf just disappered. No sound in build in speakers, no in headphones.

What I have already did. Uninstal, re-instal drivers for Sigmatel 9750 (several times). From Dell web site and several other places (I was told that drivers from dell`s website could be corrupted). Nothing is working. Checked all the mute buttons. Rolled system a week a go, when it worked fine. Did virus scan. Nothing is really working. Also I started windows with no application loaded, also no sounds. Checked BIOS, there is no option to allow or turn off onboard sounds.

Extra

I do not have any error messages. Windodws media player works fine, even equalizer's graphic is jumpning. But no sound. Same in Device Manager, drivers for Sigmatel are there. No error alerts. No sound.

Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The programme runs with no alerts and then closes.
