Old-Style Folder icons - any idea why?

All of a sudden, my icons decided to change to old stlye folder pictures

Instead of the nice-looking XP folder icons, I've got what looks like the Win98-ish ones (I can post images if I'm not explaining too well).

Does anyone know how to get the decent ones back? (I have checked in Folder Options and been through the TweakUI program - nothing in there changed anything.)

Thanks, but that is not whats happened. In fact, its the opposite of that: all my special folders have the special icons, zip folders have the zip icon, but normal folders have the old 2D icon.

I've never change the theme since installation - these folders just decided to change all of a sudden. I was thinking maybe the icon file used for it has been corrupted or something?

It may be worth running sfc /scannow from the run box (note the space between sfc /)
You will need your xp disk.
This should repair any damaged files.

There is a hidden icon cache file in your windows directory, ShellIconCache, which contains a copy of all the default desktop icons. It sometimes gets corrupted. If it does, your icons will go all black or they may display the wrong icons. If this happens, delete it and reboot. Windows will repopulate the cache with the default icons. To delete the ShellIconCache:
at a command prompt, change to the %SystemRoot% folder
remove the hidden attribute from the file:
type attrib -h shelliconcache and press ENTER.
delete the file:
type del shelliconcache and press ENTER.
logoff and backon and the default icons should be restored.

TweakUI has been known to corrupt the ShellIconCache file
