XP reboot question!!!!

i have a copy of xp pro on a compaq machine. every now and then it just reboots of its own accord. when i check the event viewer it says that it rebooted because of a bugcheck and then gives a hexadecimal address. does anyone know why it might be doing this??? thanks for your help.

To get the real cause do this.

Right click My Computer/Properties/Advanced Tab/Settings for Startup and Recovery/UNCHECK Automatically Restart on System Failure.

The next time it happens yo will get a STOP error screen. And on that screen will have likely cause of your problem.
Once we get the STOP error we can match that to a likely cause.
