the problem happens once a month, i dont know why!

what happens is that one day ill switch my computer off and when i turn it back on windows loads properly, it goes to the user screen (where u put ur password 2 sign on) and then when i put the password in, it sais "loading ur settings". i hear the windows welcome sound and then it just logs off without logging on!
iv tried it a hundred times and it wont work,
the only way i can get on to my account is in safe mode!
iv had to re-install 3 times, this is the final time before i switch back to windows 98. lol im gettin sick of it, can someone please help me, why is it doing this?!

Since you can get into Safe Mode no problem it is either a Startup program or device driver that is loading when try to boot normally that is likely casuing the problem.

What kind of hardware is on the system?
What programs do you have starting every time the computer boots?
Do you have the latest drivers for all your hardware?
Are your programs and hadware XP compatible?

Look here, it will show you all you startup items and 3rd party services that start when you boot.

Start/Run/type msconfig in Open box.

Look under the Startup tab, every item there starts when the computer does.
Look under the Services tab, and check the box called Hide all Microsoft Services; every item there is a 3rd party service that runs when you boot.

Any item on either list could be causing your problem.

ok when i hide the miscrosoft list this is the list of things running:
(this is under the Services tab)

Symantec Event manager
Symantec Password validation service
Creative service for CDROM access
Machine debug manager
Norton antivirus auto protect service
Norton unerase protection
Scriptblocking service
Truevector internet monitor

these are the things running under the Startup tab:
(i have taken 3 snapshots of the list as it is too big to right, lol)

i really really appreciate ur help and would be greatful if u could give me advice on how to solve this problem! if its a program im installing which is causing this then why does it happen every month?! it seems a bit odd, could it be some sort of timer for something? maybe an expiary for a licence or something??!

thank u so much

You have WAY TOO MANY items starting up when you boot.

You have Spyware on there also.
Get Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Run that program.

Also disable every Startup item there except maybe your antivirus and firewall.

Go here and you should be able to look up each startup item.
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startu...tartup_full.htm

When you boot there about 35 items trying to start BESIDES Windows.

Uncheck the box, press Apply/Close/Restart.
When the computer comes back up, check the box "Do not show......" on the first screen that appears, then press OK.
