Viewing slide presentation via XP? Help!

I am trying to put together a slide presentation with pictures stored on my hard drive. I have a laptop with Windows XP. I assume this program does not have Powerpoint since I cant find it anywhere on XP. Is there any information regarding viewing slides with a projector? I dont want to view them as a slide show on my PC ( I already know how to do that) but want them to be viewed on a screen in front of people. Do i use the same projector as a PowerPoint SLide show? How do I know it will work without spending over a grand for the projector? Is there programs I need or that would help out?

As any slide show hardware gives a direct copy of whats on your laptop screen than any slide show safeware will work.. Even the xp slideshow screen saver.

If not there are lots of freeware slideshow progs... try irfanview which is a graphic viewer which creates slideshows for you.
