Windows File Protection is probably appearing for a reason.

When you reinstall, do you format?

If you are having problems opening some items, it could be a virus.

Do you have an up to date virus checker. Your hard drive may be failing.

Could be bad RAM.

WHat kind of system do you have?

yes i format the HDD..so it cannot be a virus..only..if i had virus in the bios...and if i had it it would clean me all the settings and stuff like that...The HDD has a couple of years...and it would be strange both 10GB and 20GB being damaged at the same time and with the same erros...i have 2cards of ram 1 of 64mb and another with 256mb...and i have a P4 1,7mhz.....and i have another fantastic bug that happened coulple of last days..my old keyboard started failing so i used an old keyboard but not those using a serial port neither usb...but i used a piece that can be inserted in the old keyboard and that i can insert in ps/2 like the current keyboards...and the thing is...when i switch to that keyboard already runing the windows it works fine...but after resarting windows for the third ou fourth time...windows not even start...it gives a msg that the HDD is invalid or someting like that...what about that? this pc is the stupidiest thing i've ever put hands on....

If I were to guess the casue of all you troubels I would look at your RAM.
You said you have a stick of 64 and a stick of 256.

They are probably two differnet types of RAM. Pull the 64 out and run Windows to see how that goes.

If there are 2 different types/kinds of RAM in the System it can corrupt files; then Windows File Protection can appear.
