Exclamation Whole account reset?

I logged onto my admin account on XP Home today and found that my background, start bar, etc were reset back to what they looked like when I first set the account up. On closer inspection, all of my documents (school papers, music, pictures) were gone, and I was back to a near-empty My Documents folder (with just the default windows stuff inside).
I have no idea what happened that could have caused this.

When I downloaded Belarc Advisor to find out my PC specs so I could post them in this post, it wouldn't run:
Quote:
Error
The file 'C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\BANTExt.sys' could not be opened. Please check that the disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory. The system cannot find the path specified.

Same deal with word, except I got the 'please insert Windows Install Disk 1' message. That CD is loooong gone.
------------EDIT-------------
I can run Word, but only after hitting cancel a few times on the please insert disk screen.
------------/EDIT------------

If any of you have any idea what could have happened, please let me know - or even better, if any of you have any idea how to get my stuff back, I think I might worship you for a while.

Thanks!

Hmm...

While exploring to see what else was missing, I found that my original documents folder is still on the computer, but when I tried to get on, I got an access denied message.

Right now there is My Documents -> Corey (the good folder) and My Documents -> Corey.WoodinDELL (the empty folder).

Take a look at this article to try and regain acess to your files and back them up.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421

Then I wouldn't be suprised if you have to reinstall.

Thanks for trying, but...I seem to have lost my admin status along with access to my files - anyone know a way to get it back?

Oh, and I think one of the other administrators took it away, so asking might not be the best approach.

Hummm, if this is a work machine and you have administrators, tell them the problem and ask them to log in with admin access and fix your profile.

Some times it as easy as renaming the profile in explorer to reflect the proper name for the user account. Domain account or local account.
Not really sure why it is happening but the account seems to forget what it is, local or domain. Tell it and it should work again. If not create a new account and copy all the old data to new account profile. If you cannot get this done due to No Admin... Might have to format and start over.

But yes you will have to have Administrator rights to do so.
