Screen Resolution problem (or is it something else?)

Please forgive my ignorance. I am almost completely computer illiterate. I tried to change my desktop wallpaper to a photo from the internet, but the photo is very out of focus. It stretches to the edges of the screen, but you can barely even recognize that it is a photo. I tried changing screen resolution, but that doesn't help. The resolution listed for the photo/wallpaper was 1024x768, which is what my computer is set at. Any suggestions?
Note: I'm running Windows XP Home. Anything else you need to know about my computer, please ask specifically where it would be listed (ie memory modules, drivers, etc.) I really am that bad with computers!

I'm guessing it is a very small pic and you have your desktop set to "stretch" it to fit
try changing it to "centre" the pic will be small but will be clear

Don't know what happened, but changed to a different photo with the same res. and it turned out fine. Thank you trying to help though!

Don't Stretch thumbnails, and you'll be ok.
