Having trouble rebooting in normal mode

I have been battling with viruses for a week now, and got to my wits end. I have narrowed it down to the Trojan.Start Page problem. After following the path to delete it, I went into safe mode to continue the process. Now that I am done, I cannot reboot into normal mode. I use the F8 key, and get the list of boot options, select boot in Windows XP normal mode. This takes me to another boot option screen where Boot in Windows XP normal mode is the only option. After selecting this option it continues to boot in safe mode. What am I missing? Thanks
