I have an Dell inspiron 8100 with dual fans, i notice 1 is not working, Is it hard to repalce myself? can someone tell me how to do it? I know the store or Dell will charge me a bundle
Where, exactly, is the non-fuctioning fan located? Working on laptops is a skill unto itself. Unless you have pretty good mechanical ability and a lot of patience, it'll drive you nuts.
They usually use what are called "muffin" fans. This is the generic term or the square housing that is really thin compared to bigger PC etc. They need to be both of the same voltage and stuff that should be imprinted on the fan. Then call Radio Shack or Graybar electric(they have everything).
It should be a direct plug replacement and you need to take it to the Graybar or Radio Shack.
Now getting them out of the unit, I could not begin to help on other than to say they are probably buried under the motherboard. It is probably going to take some work.
I bet a local PC shop could fix if pretty cheap for say $75 for everthing or so.....
