sp2 killed sound

hello,
after i installed sp2 on my pc, sound disappeared. re-installed right drivers and even updated still not fixed. can anybody help. I don't want to re-install os, 2 much hassle. I have PIII 500mhz dinosaur, soundblaster mobo made by empac.
also tried installing sound card sb live 24bit, even when all firewall and antivirus off, xp does not accept drivers. thank you in advance.

Have u tried uninstalling service pack to or maybe even, sound card driver roll back facility from the Device Manager???
