Reading Chinese Characters

Previously before i format my computer... i was able to read the chinese character in my favourites-the names of my favourite links-without any other programs ... but now i can't.... and i am using firefox... is this a problem with my firefox or is it with my windows .... is there anything i can do to make it work again....

Thanks..

PS: i am sorry if this is not where it is suppose to be....
