My Computer Window always opens on Startup?

A while back I started running Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel and also went thru the procedures on Black Viper to eliminate a bunch of unnecessary services.

Ever since then, on bootup, the My Computer Window always opens, and Outlook (which is in my Startup folder) does not.

I am running XP with SP2 installed. Any ideas, please?

Please see this.

Also, remove Outlook and everything else you added yourself from your Startup.

Windows Startup.

All the Best!

Try this:

Click on "My Computer"

Go to the "Tools" menu.

Select "Folder Options..."

Goto the "View" tab

Scroll down the list until you find "Restore previous folder windows at logon"

Uncheck the box.

Click "Apply"

Click "OK"

If that doesn't work, then most likely you may have the path to some executable that doesn't exist. Which means the path could be incorrect.

What folder is the window opening in?

It is probably opening in the window for the path of the file that it's trying to execute. Probably Outlook's.

Which means if you have Outlook working fine normally, then all you would have to do is fix the path. Try deleting the shortcut from the startup folder and copying a new one to it.

The window was opening the the "My Computer" folder. The one that displays the various fixed and removable media on the computer.

I went thru the other suggestions including checking for the null quotes, but since the folder being opened wasn't in the system32 directory, I didn't expect to find the null quotes and didn't.

What I did do was delete Outlook from Startup and reboot and...no "My Computer" window. I then added Outlook to Startup, rebooted and...no "My Computer" window and Outlook did run. Just what I wanted.

Thanks for help, troops. I needed it.
