cant open FTP

my computer can't open FTP pages or connect to them and it can't do anything related to them. the problem isnt in internet explorer, because when i use msn it also doesnt work. when i attempt to play madden 2005 online and i have to auto-patch my game, it uses ftp. it says it can't open an FTP session. i use dsl and a router, is it possible that i have to open some port or something. and if not, what do i have to do to make my computer open FTPs?

Go to your router's homepage and look for ftp help there! BTW I use a linksys and they helped me!

yea...on my netgear router there are settings for which ports should be left open and i had to create a new rule to allow proper FTP activation.

You may need a firmware upgrade?
