In Desperate Need Of Help
I really hope someone here can help me. I have a Toshiba laptop that came with WinXP Home. I recently started having stability problems. I tried restoring and it wouldn't let me restore back beyond a couple of days even though there were restore points going back for months. Eventually after restoring to the previous day and then from there to the day before that, ALL of the previous restore points vanished. I decided to try reinstalling Windows without wiping the drive in hopes that a possibly corrupted or deleted file would be replaced. Well, it turns out I couldn't find my Windows disk. I decided to ask my father-in-law if I could use his (yeah, I know it's wrong but I didn't know what else to do, besides, it's not like I haven't paid for my own copy of Windows already). What I didn't expect was the whole activation thing you have to do now to install or upgrade Windows. Well, it didn't matter anyhow, since after doing the reinstall or upgrade or whatever it's called, I couldn't log into my account without activating. When I tried activating, it couldn't connect to the internet through my dsl, even using the dialup option didn't work. Now, all it does is kick me back to the login window. I'm stuck in an endless loop. I'd be happy just to cancel the entire upgrade at this point but I don't know how. Please, can anyone help?
