CPU usage 100%

Am running a P4 3GHz 512mb ram laptop. My problem is that the cpu seems to always been running a 100% and everything just slows down. The on programs that are on are word, one firefox browser and thats it. When I click crtl+alt+delete and click on processes and mem usage firefox is using up 66,674kb of memory. Anyone know what to do?

In task manager, go to the processes tab.

Is there any one process that's using up all the CPU power?

Have you done a virus scan and spyware scan lately? See here

And it's fairly normal for Firefox to use a lot of memory. It is known to be somewhat resource hungy out of the box.

It's strange you should post about this. I was browsing earlier today and Firefox decided to jump to 78,000kb!. The fans on my laptop were going crazy trying to cool everything down. Eventually i just closed Firefox and it returned to normal when i opened it again.
I have run all my spyware and antivirus utilities and they come up clean. If it happens again I'm going to run HJT and see if there is something more sinister going off .

I've called Mulder and Scully! They say this is an unknown phenomenon but not to worry unless it happens all the time .

No..Seriously though. I'm not worrying about it yet but if it keeps doing it, i'll be running that HJT scan to see if anything is wrong .
