After trying different possibilities and i deas, thank you for yr help, i give up.

i have a copy of windows 98se on my hard drive so my plan is to install wse and then windows xp again when my computer recognize my cd-rom drive.

I will lose all my software i supouse wich is very sad and to reinstalled back is time consuming. Ialready try but windows xp wont let me start the set up, it askme to restart my computer on ms-dos mode and then install how do i do that? Is there a way i can save all the installed software still even installing 2 opperating systems? thank you

Hi,

Forget everything else. If upgrading to Win XP from any other Win OS do yourself a favor and do a clean install. Backup your data, favorite web sites, sounds, pictures, etc. They will all work with Win XP.

Create a boot disk in Win98. Include Format, Fdisk, and Sys in new boot disk.

Go into Bios and change boot sequence. Make CD ROM first boot. Place WinXP in cdrom. Boot from WinXP and follow directions. Allow WinXP to format and change partition (FAT).

Never install a new OS over an OLD OS.
