Here is one to boggle the brain

OK. I am working on a system. Initial diagnosis was, new WIRELESS keyboard and mouse would not work.

When I arrived at the scene, this was the case. BUT here is the problem . . .

Before, the user was using a logitec wireless keyboard and mouse, which have apparantly broken.

Now, when you boot the computer up with a regular PS2 mouse and keyboard, neither of them work. It seems as if they have been disabled on the system.

Anybody have any thoughts on what to do? How to get into Windows? I cannot go pass the welcome screen in Windows XP Home where you pick which user to log on as.

Running in Safe Mode does the same thing.

Any suggestions please!!! I am at a loss and would rather not re-image the computer.

Thanks so much!

Have you checked in the BIOS to see if the ps2 ports have been disabled. Depending on the make of M/board you should hit the delete / F2 keys to get there then check through all the menus to see if it has been disabled. Failing that have you checked the k/b and mouse actually work on another computer? Does sound like more of a hardware problem than a s/ware one.

Yes

I have checked in the BIOS. There is no option to enable/disable PS2 ports.

I can load Knoppix on the computer and keyboard and mouse work fine.

I have never seen a computer get locked out like this before.
